Hear and Believe”

I was driving home the other evening after a long day…as daylight dwindled and the ole sun began to set ….I decided to roll my truck windows down and breathe some fresh air.

As I was driving out of town I passed a freshly cut hay field…. I don’t really know how to convey the heartwarming…mind jogging smell....but, it was simply wonderful. The aroma brought back so many childhood memories…heartwarming memories of me and my brother hauling straw hay…. or riding on top of the hay trailer as the hot summer wind blew in my face…..

It’s weird but I cherish those memories…..

As I was driving…I began seeing in my mind… the faces of all those friends I hauled hay with…I saw the faces of all the old farmers …now resting….long gone. My heart began to ache…wondering if they knew Jesus… and would I see them one day again…in heave.

Now I am sure we have all had those thoughts about loved ones, friends and acquaintances from past years. So what does God’s Word say about this?

John 5:24 tells us  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

So what this verse is telling us is that… for those who hear the gospel and have believed in the Lord as their One and only true Savior…. they have eternal life…they have passed out of death (the condemnation their sin has brought upon them) and into life.

I get asked all the time… “How do you know you’re saved”… I always respond back to them…you know you’re saved if you’re trusting in Jesus Christ as your Savior and because of your love for Him…your life changes. The fruit of your life shows everyone around you that a change has begun within you.

Sadly…. the flip side to that verse is this….. If someone has never believed in Jesus Christ as their Savior ….then they remain dead in their sins….only to awaken one day to face Christ as their Judge.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believe in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”. John 3:16

May we be found faithful in telling this truth to the world around us.
