What is marriage?
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
God instituted marriage before the fall of man and at the creation of Eve from Adam in the Garden of Eden. God being the first one to officiate a marriage covenant, declared in Genesis 2:24 a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they will be one flesh. Therefore, marriage is one man, one woman who has covenanted together as husband and wife. They come together to form one family unit.
Anything outside one man and one woman in covenant together is not marriage as defined by our Creator. We know that God has created four institutions in the Scripture (conscience, marriage, government, the church). Marriage is an institution given to all Adam’s seed, both the redeemed and reprobate, and therefore is to be enforced by the government as an institution created by God, per Romans 13:1-5, that executes justice against unlawful and immoral actions. When the government does not enforce God’s established order and standards, then the church must, as the pillar of truth, pronounce the government’s error (1 Timothy 3:15).
Marriage is one man, one woman bound together as husband and wife till death does them part.
